Biography

Hepzibah was born probably in Washington, Georgia, in January of 1819, to Abner Wellborn and Martha Render. She married William Granville Hill, son of Abram Hill and Clarissa Calloway, in November of 1847.[1] They had eight known children:[2] [3] [4] [5]

  • 1848-1904: Abner Wellborn, m. Sallie Catherine Buchanan, 1871
    • CAUTION: there were two Abner Wellborn Hills, born to sisters Hepzibah and Martha Wellborn (who both married Hills) in the same year. Be careful not to conflate them.
  • 1849-1934: Martha C., m. Montgomery Leonidas Thomas, 1871
  • 1851: unnamed child, died in infancy
  • 1853-1907: Susan A., m. William Benjamin Orr, 1881
  • 1856->1880: Willie (daughter), m. Robert McCaslan?
  • 1857-1944: Elizabeth Talluloch, m. William Benjamin Orr, bw. 1907-1910 (after sister Susan's death)
  • 1859-<1860: Abraham M., died in infancy
  • 1859-1863: Sallie Estell, died in childhood

William died in October of 1892.[6] Hepzibah followed him only a few months later, passing in March of 1893.[7] They are buried together at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Georgia.
