Biography

Isabelle (Weldon) Carver was a an early settler in Pennsylvania.
Isabelle was a Friend (Quaker)

Isabelle's origins are unknown, although it is commonly repeated that she was from the "Barony of Kendale in Ireland"[1] The first record we have is from the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for her marriage to John Carver:

"John Carver, of Byberry, a certificate in order to marry Isabelle Welden, of Philadelphia Mo. Mtg. Original on file. Received 8 mo. 26, 1716[2]

Three children of John & Isabel were recorded by the Abington Monthly Meeting[3]

  1. John Carver b.30th of 7 mo 1717
  2. Ann Carver b.23rd of 11 mo 1720
  3. Isaac Carver b.2nd of 2 mo 1722

unknown origins

Research notes: Does anyone know the original source of the information that Isabelle came from "Barony of Kendale in Ireland"?

Most internet family trees have Isabel from the "Barony of Kendal, Ireland". This information appears to come from Joseph Martindale's 1901 History of the Townships of Byberry and Moreland... (page 264). However, wikipedia has the Barony of Kendal in Westmoreland, England. There is no similarly named place listed in the Baronies of Ireland.

Where did Isabelle come from? Several possible relations appear in the early Philadelphia records. Possibly related:

Thomas Coebourn Jr. was received by the Chester MM along with his wife and children 10mo 27, 1714 from Carshell MM in Tipperary, Ireland. [6]
Elizabeth Weldon; born 1682 Cashel, Boyton Roth, Tipperary, Ireland; married Thomas Barger July 24, 1692 in Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland; died 1750 in Maiden Creek Township, Berks PA [7].
