I'm a retired Vietnam veteran and amateur historian interested in the colonial Atlantic coast from Newfoundland to Long Island. My maternal family tree is represented by her brother John Shirley-2273.
AL was the twelfth generation born in Massachusetts. He was appointed a Holloway Plan midshipman at the University of New Mexico, and received a United States Navy commission upon graduation with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He was promoted to Lieutenant aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Chicago (CG-11) during eight PIRAZ assignments off the coast of North Vietnam covering withdrawal of United States troops from Vietnam including the mining of Haiphong harbor and destruction of 13 North Vietnamese MiG fighter planes. His service decorations included the Combat Action Ribbon, a Navy Unit Commendation, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze campaign stars. He completed graduate work for a master of science degree in environmental engineering while serving as assistant professor of naval science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
AL resigned his Navy commission to protest amnesty for draft evaders and Presidential Proclamation 4360 terminating registration procedures under the Military Selective Service Act. He became a professional engineer, and retired following a 33-year civil service field engineer career investigating aquatic biochemical ecology of North American forest brooks and rivers receiving municipal and industrial wastewater.

Hello ...I came across your name when looking to add to Hannah Weston Kinney, and John Kinney's profiles. I wanted to add their gravestones, but then realized that they may be copy written so, I thought I would just share. I am related to you by so many of the Mayflower families, some of mine are Standish, Doty, Hopkins, Soule, Billington and more that relocated to Nova Scotia. I was looking for a stone for Randall and Rebecca Mac/McDonald, in the Chebogue Cemetery, Yarmouth County, NS. Hannahs stone has Kenney, and John's has Kinney, the way my mother's maiden name is. I will take a drive and get my own pictures soon, meanwhile you can find them on find a grave in that cemetery.
You recently added a daughter Mercy to Ephraim Morton without a quality sources on either profile. What is your source for that information? Would you please post it to the profiles in question?
Please forgive my delayed response to your July 29th comment on my profile page. Travel has recently kept me away from my data sources. Ann (Cooper) Morton seems the most likely mother of Mercy (Morton) Rickard from the information I have found, including Mercy's revised birth date indicated by the note on her profile, which would fit within a birth order gap in Ann's children, while George Morton's other male descendants were not having children. Health problems may terminate my attempts to verify this conclusion with mitochondrial DNA evidence. If you feel uncomfortable with the present parentage, I request you remove it, while adding notes similar to the following text to the respective profiles to emphasize availability of this mtDNA data for other researchers investigating this possibility.
Cooper-1309:
" Mercy (Morton) Rickard has been suggested as a possible daughter of Ann Cooper. This possibility may be supported by matrilineal descendants with mitochondrial DNA haplogroup H-T195C!. This relatively uncommon back-mutation has not yet been assigned a standard alphanumeric suffix, and will be reported as simply H by 23andMe."
Morton-179:
" Ann (Cooper) Morton has been suggested as the mother of Mercy Morton. This possibility may be supported by matrilineal descendants with mitochondrial DNA haplogroup H-T195C!. This relatively uncommon back-mutation has not yet been assigned a standard alphanumeric suffix, and will be reported as simply H by 23andMe."
Hi, Al, I saw your DNA note for Toney-961. Thank you for posting it. I wanted to put in the link for easier reference. They have all kinds of explanation pages but I could not find the Y-DNA results listing. Do you have a link? Thanks, Cindy
