Red River Metis in Lewistown - Catholic Pioneers The first marriage was performed at this time by Fr. Damiani uniting Antione Fleury and Ernestine Wells, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wells. Fr. Damiani made annual and sometimes semi-annual visits after that for the first few years. He would say mass at the home of Francis Janeaux and for the benefit of the Catholic village.

ln 1884, he performed a double marriage ceremony at this home. The sons of Pierre Laverdure, Joseph and Daniel were married to Pauline Wells and Mary Natalie Wells, respectively. Pauline was the sister of Edward Wells and Mary Natalie was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wells. Father Damiani was accompanied here by another priest and both were invited to the wedding held in the home of Mr. Edward Wells.
