Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1813 or 1814 in Wallingford, Berkshire. She was baptised on 1 February 1814 at St Mary's church, Wallingford[1]. She is the daughter of Edward Wells and Mary Hazel who married in 1804, this being the second marriage for her father.

Her father died in 1826. Elizabeth is mentioned in his will.

Elizabeth is named one of the executors in her mother's will written in 1836 and is unmarried at the time.

On 20 July 1837 Elizabeth Wells married Cecil Arding at St Mary's church, Wallingford[2][3]. The marriage was registered at Wallingford in the third quarter of 1837.

Son Cecil Wells Arding was born in 1838, birth registered in the second quarter of the year at Wallingford.

At the 1841 census the new family is recorded at St Mary's Lane, Wallingford. Details (note that at this census adult ages are often rounded down to nearest mulpile of 5 years) - husband Cecil Arding (31, ?independent means), son Cecil Wells Arding (3) and Elizabeth Arding (25), all described as born in Berkshire.

Elizabeth's mother died in 1842. The probate record confirms Elizabeth is married to Cecil Arding.

Elizabeth died in 1844. It appears she died in childbirth, bearing a daughter who perhaps was still born (no record of being registered). This detail of her death is included in a note written in 1851 on her mother's will which Elizabeth left unadministered. Her death was registered at Wallingford in the second quarter of 1844.
