Peter Wells III performed Patriotic Service in Rhode Island in the American Revolution.

Birth

Peter Wells was born on 4 May 1713 at Kings Towne, Providence, Rhode Island (now South Kingstown, Washington County, Rhode Island.

Marriages

Peter Wells married first, Elizabeth Arnold on 1 February 1736/37 in Warwick, Providence County, Rhode Island. She was born on 16 March 1710/11 in Warwick, Providence County, Rhode Island. However, a christening record for their daughter, Elisabeth Wells showed that her mother's maiden name was Well.[1][2]

23 Nov 1740 Peter Wells to Ruth Slocum in Kent Co, RI. No indication as to parents or birth places of either of them. [3]

He married second or third, Elizabeth Sweet on 2 July 1746 in Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island. [4] Elizabeth Sweet was born in about 1720.

NOTE: another entry for Peter Wells Wells-8742 It is difficult to be certain as to his identity. The DAR lists on the Elizabeth's as his wives.

"Att a Town Council held in Scituate in the County of Providence the 26th day of March AD 1743...

Whereas there is one Peter Wells with his family Came into this Town with an Intent therein to Sette and hath Procured a Certificate from the Town Council of the Town of Warwick from whence he Removed heither in the following words

These May Certifie the Town Council of Scituate in the County of Providence &c: the we the Town Council of Warwick in the Council aforesd. Do hereby own Peter Wells and his family Now Resideing in Sd. Scituate aforesd. Shoemaker to be Inhabitants of our Town and will at any Time hereafter Receive them as Such can be they attain any Legall Settlement any where Else. Given by order of Council in Warwick aforesd. ye 14th of March 1742/3 P. Jere Lippitt Cou.ll Clerk."[5]

Att a Town Council held in Scituate in the County of Providence on the 26th. day of March 1743...

Voted that Peter Wells have a License to keep a Public Tavern ale House and Victualing house in the house where in he now Dwells for the Space of one whole year next Coming and the Town Clerk is hereby ordered and Impowered to give him a License under the Seal of the Council upon hi giveing Sufficient bond according to Law.[6]

Military History

Revolutionary War Service Peter Wells is DAR Ancestor #: A122603[7] He subscribed to the Test in 1776 in Hopkinton. His spouse(s): 1)Elizabeth Arnold, 2) Elizabeth Sweet. Children in file: Anna who m. Stukely Westcott.

Death

Peter Wells died at his age of 103 years in 1813 in Cheshire, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, but it is not verified yet by any contemporary sources.

Wells-9995 and Wells-6042 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife, same dates of birth and death. Will propose merge of wives as well.
