Biography

Arthur Wells, Jr., was raised by his mother and step-father, John Hendricks. He became a blacksmith (also called a "cordwainer" - cobbler or leather shoemaker) in Elfreth's Lane, Philadelphia, and married a woman named Mary, ____ Unknown (possibly Barnes or Warner).

"The Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy: Philadelphia," pg 441., under "Deaths of non-Quakers" says:

"Arthur Wells, Jr.. City of Philadelphia. Cordwainer. [Died on] October 7, 1732/3. [Will proven:] December 27, 1732; No. E. 211. Wife: Mary _______. Brother: Thomas. Children: Rebecca, Katherine. Exec: Mary Wells, Barnaby Barns, Edward Warner. "
