Jesse Wade Hampton Wells was born on April 21, 1877, probably in Park County, Colorado, to Andrew Jackson and Mary Matilda (Mullen) Wells. He was the father of four children. An infant by his first wife, Minnie, died shortly after its birth. Of his children with Grace Gateley Wells, a daughter died as an infant; Ora died in a warehouse fire; and his son, Leo, survived to adulthood. Jesse and Grace were married and divorced three times. According to one of his descendants, the unnamed Wells infant buried in Rifle, Colorado, may have been named Mary. Jesse owned one of Rifle's first movie theaters, the Rex Theater, and he built a reservoir on the Flattops called Theodore Lake (which I'm still researching since the name is not in modern use). He last married Jessie M. Jones Vidal, who had four children by her first husband, and they were married until Jesse's death. Jesse died on June 29, 1958 in Rifle, Colorado, and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle, Colorado.
