Captain John Wells served with Hampshire County, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

John Wells is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A122523.

John was the son of John and Sarah (Allen) Wells of Hatfield, MA, grandson of Ebenezer Wells, great grandson of Thomas Wells and great-great grandson of Hugh Wells. He was an early settler of Shelburne, MA., where he served as town clerk, first selectman for 20 years, a member of the Committee of Correspondence 1775. He marched as corporal on Lexington Alarm and served as captain of the 8th company, Hampshire Regiment 1777 and 1780. He moved to Waitsfield, VT. about 1799.

John and Tamar had the following children:

  1. John, b. Mar 9, 1765, d. Mar 2, 1827;
  2. Sarah b. 5 Oct 1766
  3. William, b. Feb 22, 1768, d. Apr. 18, 1773;
  4. Eli, b. Sept 19, 1769, d. Sept 13, 1772;
  5. Tamar, b. Dec. 24, 1771 and married Shubal Burdick;
  6. Experience, b. June 5, 1774
  7. Deliverance, b. June 5, 1774, d. June 21, 1790.
