Biography

Marcy, daughter of Paul and Katherine Wentworth, was born 18 July 1686 in probably Dover, New Hampshire or Newbury, Massachusetts,[1] while her birth is recorded in Norwich, Connecticut,[2] where her family, after several years in New London, settled. She was baptized 16 May 1697 in Rowley, Massachusetts.[3]

An intention of marriage between Joseph Chapman (son of Simon of Ipswich) and Mercy Winworth of Rowley was published 5: 2m: 1707 in Ipswich, Massachusetts.[4]

Joseph Chapman and Mercy Wintworth were married 23 April 1707 in Rowley.[3][5]

The children of Mercy Wentworth and Joseph Chapman were:[2]

  • Joseph, born 5 April 1708.
  • Mary, born 17 September 1709; died 3 June 1725.
  • Moses, born 10 November 1711.
  • Sarah, born 9 January 1713/14.
  • Ezekiel, born 3 March 1715/16.
  • Aaron, born 12 July 1718.
  • Daniel, born 10 January 1720/21.
  • Simeon, born 22 April 1723.

Joseph Chapman died in Norwich 10 June 1725. Caulkins and others wrongly assumed that the "mare Chapman" who d. 3 June 1725 was Joseph's wife while it was in fact their daughter Mary.[6]

Mercy (Wentworth) Chapman married second, 19 December 1728 in Colchester, Connecticut, William Chapman.[7][8][9]

Mercy (Wentworth) Chapman Chapman died some time after 12 January 1771 when William Chapman's estate is divided.[10]

It is thought that the two spouses are not duplicates. Can you please check any notes on those profiles and detach as necessary? Thanks!!

The article says that Joseph Chapman's wife was the daughter of Paul Wentworth Wentworth-348 and wife Catherine Unknown-364383

Wentworth-902 and Wentworth-492 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same people. Their parents also need to be merged. There is a question about Catherine Wentworth's maiden name as all sources seem to indicate that it is unknown, so sourcing the Stewart link needs to be more completely evaluated. There is a slight discrepancy in the marriage date (April 7 vs. April 23 of 1707 but may be from recording delays or intentions).
