Biography

Fanny Catherine Wentworth was born on 20th November 1829 at Vaucluse House, Colony of New South Wales (Australia). She was the third child of William Charles Wentworth and Sarah Cox,[1] and named for her two convict grandmothers, Fanny Morton Cox and Catherine Crowley (Wentworth).[2]

She married John Reeve on 23 February 1847 at St James Church of England, Sydney, New South Wales.[3] They had five children:

  1. Arthur John Reeve (1856-56)
  2. Eleanor Wentworth Reeve (1858-)
  3. D'Arcy Wentworth Reeve (1860-1926)
  4. Edith Laura Wentworth Reeve (1863-), married surname Darvall
  5. Charles Sydney Wentworth Reeve (1864-1933)

About 1872 John became paralysed and Fanny then devoted all her time to his care. He passed away in November 1875. Sir James Darvall, former New South Wales attorney-general and acquantaince of Fanny's father, was appointed co-executor of John's estate with Fanny. They sold the house at Wimbledon and established a safe income for Fanny. Fanny's daughter, Edith, later married Sir James' son. Indeed, in the years following, with her brother, Fitz, mainly in Australia and brother D'Arcy too irresponsible, Fanny managed both her own affairs and as well as those of her father's estate.[2]

She passed away on 17 September 1893 at Kensington, Middlesex, England.

Burial: St John's Woking, Surry, 21 September 1893 "after cremation".[4]

Probate: "Reeve Fanny Katherine of Albert-hall-mansions Kensington Middlesex widow died 17 September 1893 Probate London 10 September to D'Darcy Wentworth Reeve esquire and John Tarry solicitor Effects £47715".[5]
