American Revolutionary War Veteran. Served in 1777 as a private in Capt. Elijah Backus’ company from Norwich, Conn., where he was born.
He passed away about 1812 in Hamilton, N.Y.

"Edward, son of Benjamin and Mehitable (Carrier) Wentworth, born 30 January 1735-36; married Mary Lord, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Lord, who deeded him land at Misery Hill, in Norwich, Conn., 20 June 1762. He was admitted freeman, 7 April 1766, and took the oath of fidelity to the State, 9 September 1777. He owned land at Waneco's Hill, 4 March 1783. The baptisms of his children are recorded at Norwich, Conn., where "Mary, wife of Edward Wentworth, subscribed the covenant, 21 March 1762." In 1785 they were residing in Tinmouth, Vt.. About 1809 they moved to Hamilton, Madison County, New York, with son Burril, where Edward died about 1812. His wife died in Berkshire, Vt., about 1827, at the house of her daughter, Eunice Crampton.
