Obituary

Mr. Willard Lee West, age 88, of the Deep River Community, died Thursday, July 16, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Harnett County, NC, on October 1, 1926, to the late Jacob Augustus West and Amanda Mae Green West. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his late wife Gladys Holder West and was the last surviving child out of ten children: Thelma Mae West, Ernest Warren West, David Lewis West, Mary Catherine West, Ruby Gordon West, Robert Worth West, John Alexander West, Amanda Lucille West and Fletcher Morgan West.

Mr. West was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church for 52 years and was an avid gardener his whole life. He worked as a machinist at Whitin & Roberts Company for 35 years. He was a loving caregiver to his late wife of 63 years, caring for Gladys day and night.

He is survived by two sons Major General (Ret.) Randall L. West and wife Robin of Marshall, VA, Michael L. West and wife Ruth of Deep River; daughter Linda West Wooten and husband Larry of Clayton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 19, 2015, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the fellowship hall of Flat Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM with Dr. Gary McCollough and Rev. Major General (Ret.) Randall L. West officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family kindly requests memorials be made in their father's memory to Flat Springs Baptist Church, 4148 Deep River Road, Sanford, NC 27330 or to "Patriots 4," a charity for wounded veterans and their families, 28 Veteran's Lane, St. George, WV 26287.
