Biography

Sarah, daughter of Francis West and the widow, Sarah Downing Hilliard, was born 2 June 1700, probably in Kings Towne, Rhode Island. She is the great-granddaughter of George Soule. [1]

She was married about 1724, probably in what is now North Kingstown, to John Phillips. A 1731 deed by Sarah and her husband John Phillips discharged her brother Peter West for he right in her father's estate. [1]

15 May 1742, the West Greenwich Quaker Meeting issued a certificate to the couple. This would introduce them to a new Meeting. 15 April 1747, Sarah, wife of John Phillips was voted a certificate to Voluntown for herself and her children.[1] Her death is unknown but may have been in Voluntown after 15 April 1747.

No probate records have been found for Sarah and John. [1]

Children:[1]
The births of John and Sarah were recorded in the West Greenwich vital records on the same page as the births of their children. Francis is by an unknown father.

  1. Francis Phillips b. 29 July 1720. A Phillip's Bible says that Francis was a half brother to the other children, who took the name Phillips after his mother's marriage.
  2. Freelove Philllips b. 27 Feb 1725/6
  3. John Phillips b. 21 Nov 1727

West-7119 and West-2071 appear to represent the same person because: June 2 is the date given in the 2006 Mayflower Soc. books
