Biography

Anne West was born about 1655 in West Point, Virginia Colony, the daughter of Colonel John West II and Ursula Croshaw West. [1] She was the sister of Captain Nathaniel West. Anne's father was the nephew of Thomas, 3rd Lord Delaware. She is a direct descendant of Henry III, King of England. Her mother was the granddaughter of Raleigh Croshaw.[2]

Anne married Henry Fox Sr., son of John Fox and Margaret Thomas.[3] They may have had the following children:

  1. Henry Fox Jr,
  2. Thomas Fox,
  3. John Fox,
  4. Anne Fox [4]

A debate continues over whether or not Richard is the child of Henry and Anne. Richard married Hannah Williamson. Richard and Hannah are mentioned in Henry's will. The Fox DNA Project claims it has confirmed his haplotype and reports he was not the descendant of Henry Fox and Anne West.[5] A review of the original records reveal that Richard is actually the son of John Fox.

Henry Fox was the first of the Fox Family to patent lands and establish a home in what is now King William County. Henry also received land in Gloucester County in 1683. [6]

Anne died in 1708 in New Kent, Virginia Colony.[7] Her descendants are among the families that settled the southern colony of South Carolina. [8]

Where did this birth date for Anne come from ? Dorman lists her as the 4th child of John and Unity West; based on marriages and other information Dorman suggests birthdates in the late 1660's/early 1670's for all their children.

That would also appear to then bring the marriage date into question.

West-21083 and West-707 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Son Henry also a duplicate (will propose merge). Please merge to PPP profile.

West-15857 and West-707 appear to represent the same person because: Based on married last name and linked FAG entry (no other sources on profile) for a Sarah Anne West who married Henry Fox and died in 1708, these appear to be the same person. The mother on -15858 is incorrect per the PPP profile -707. Please merge if these appear the same to you.

I would like to add a possible connection without changing your record - I have Sarah Anne West (1655 West Point, King William, Virginia - 1708 New Kent, New Kent, Virginia), daughter of Lt. Col. John West II (1632-1691) and Ursula Unity Croshaw (1636-1669). She marries Henry Isaac Fox II (1650-1714). It sounds like my Sarah Ann West is your Anne (nee West) Fox. My information comes from a Sons of the Revolution family tree so it's possible there was a bit of a mix-match.

Eric- So we should remove the current Richard?
posted by [Living McQueen]
I have identified the children and can source their profiles, The Richard listed belongs to another John Fox which is what is causing the confusion, im sourcing the profiles and some have documents from archives. The documents must be read because that is the only way that linage and parentage can be proved. Eric

Hi Eric, actually yes...and the lineage of the ancestors need checked as well. It appears that for 3-5 generations there have been merges of individuals who shouldnt have been. Im not sure how far Paula has gotten and which she has completed, so maybe coordinate fixing with her?

This profile appears to be the result of a bad merge. I will be separating out the individuals into profiles.
