At the time of Leroy's burial, Hillside Memorial Park was named Ellet Cemetery
Leroy was born Albert L Haverstick, to Albert Haverstick and Edith West. In the 1910, 1920 and 1930 US Census, he was listed as Albert Haverstick; in the 1930 census, he was listed as living with his wife Dorothy Haverstick. In the 1940 census, he was listed as Leroy West, living with wife Blanche (Dorothy) West.
Leroy West and Joyce Buchtel stopped at the Summit County courthouse, en-route to their wedding ceremony, to get their marriage license. They both answered "no" to the question "have you been previously married?" Sometime later, Joyce discovered that Leroy had been married previously, when they ran into his former wife at a grocery store (since Leroy hadn't told Joyce that he had been married before, he probably didn't want to jeopardize the wedding by answering "yes" to the question asked at the courthouse). The only census recording for any Leroy West in Summit County prior to his marriage to Joyce was the 1940 census, which lists Leroy West, age 31 (which would be about right for our Leroy West), wife Blanche West, age 32, and daughter Dorothy West, age 14. I have a picture of daughter Dorothy; on the back, she wishes her father "good luck."
Leroy was buried in Ellet Cemetery - this cemetery is now known as Hillside Memorial Park.
