Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
John West III was a Virginia colonist.

John was born in 1676. He was the son of John West and Unity Croshaw. He passed away in 1734. [1]

John West III (1676–1734) was a justice and sheriff of King and Queen County and a House of Burgesses representative for King William County, all in the US Colony and Dominion of Virginia. He was the eldest son of Colonel John West, and grandson of John West (governor).

John West inherited the West Point plantation established by his grandfather. In 1692, he was appointed justice in King and Queen County and also as sheriff of the county. He represented the newly formed County of King William in the House of Burgesses from 1702 to 1706[2] and was also a justice of the peace.

Marriage and Issue

On October 15, 1698, in Elizabeth City County, John West married Judith (Armistead) West.[3] They had only one son, Charles West, who inherited the "West Point" estate of some four thousand acres. This son Charles died without issue and by his will dated 1734 bequeathed "West Point" to his first cousin Thomas West, son of his uncle Captain Thomas West.[4] [5]
