Biography

Matthew West, the son of Matthew West and Mary Ann Roan, was born on 13 March 1777 at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. He was baptised on 20 March 1777 at Dublin, Ireland.[1]

He married Maria Louisa de Blaisy Joly, daughter of Jean Jasper Joly and Maria Louisa Rumley, on 21 July 1802 at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.

He was the proprietor of a silver, plate and jewellery business in Dublin.

NO. 15, SKINNER-ROW, DUBLIN.
MATTHEW WEST, respectfully informs his Friends and the public, that having enlarges his shop, he has laid in an elegant assortment of PLATE, PLATED and JEWELLERY WARE, and begs leave to observe that all articles sold at his house are engaged to be manufactured in the very best manner.
N.B. A variety of second hand Plate for sale.-The highest price allowed for old Gold, Silver, and Diamonds, &c. No second price asked. [2]

He gained the rank of Ensign on 19 May 1801 in the service of the 16th Regiment (Buckingham). He held the office of High Sheriff of Dublin City between 1810 and 1811. He held the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1821, elect. He lived at Ederney, County Westmeath, Ireland and also at Harcourt Street, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.

Matthew West died on 15 November 1820 at age 43 at Harcourt Street, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.
DEATHS.
Thursday morning, at his house on Harcourt-street, Dublin, Alderman Matthew West, an eminent and respectable silversmith; he was next in sucession to the Civic Chair.[3] His last will was dated 15 December 1817. Probate was granted on 7 December 1820.
