Biography

Born in 1932. in Liverpool, England and had main education at St Edwards Catholic School, then run by the Irish Christian Brothers, later banned from teaching. Being medically unfit for National Service, joined the Elder Dempster Shipping Co, as a junior at the aged of 16 and a half. After a couple of months had the chance to change jobs having previously been unsuccessful in joining a Bank. Offer of a junior post at the then National Provincial Bank in Water Street, Liverpool, almost next door to Elder's office. After a few years of counter work and other routine positions was transferred to Coventry and became disillusioned with the job but managed to be transferred back to Water Street to the Trustee Dept which I found much more interesting. Stayed in that Dept until retirement at 59 and a half as Senior Manager in Eastbourne, having had promotions to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Sheffield, Canterbury, Inspection Dept, Maidstone then Eastbourne as a retirement branch, where I still reside. My birth certificate gives place of birth as 29 Derwent Road which I think may have been a nursing home. Our home address then was 37 Queen's Drive Stoneycroft, Liverpool.
