Lewis West was born in 1821 in New York.
In 1850, a 28-year-old Lewis was living in Ohio with his wife, Eliza West, of Connecticut. They had one son, Ruben, 9 months old. Lewis was working as a carpenter at the time.
In 1860, the family was living in Minnesota. Lewis was now a farmer. He and Eliza now had two more children: a daughter, Ella, 5, and a son, George, 3.
In 1870, Lewis was working as a carpenter again in Minnesota and Eliza was keeping house. Ruben, then 20 years old, has a profession listed but it's illegible (it begins with W). Ella, 15, and George, 12, are attending school. Lewis and Eliza added another daughter to their family, Cloria, 6.
In the 1880 Census, Lewis is listed again as a carpenter. Eliza kept house. Ella, 25, and George, 22, were both schoolteachers. Cloria, 16, was in school at the time.
Lewis West passed away in February 1884 in Minnesota.
