Davis Mayfield West, 83, of Sissonville died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, in Cedar Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

He was a retired teacher from Kanawha County Schools, teaching mostly at Sissonville High School and Sissonville Junior High. He was a member of Humphreys United Methodist Church, Sissonville, the West Virginia Retired Teachers Association and was a past member of Sissonville Lions Club.

Surviving: wife, Evangeline "Jean" West; daughters, Patricia Glidenwell of Powhatan, Va., Judith Montgomery of Collierville, Tenn.; son, Blaine West of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Long & Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, Pocatalico, with the Rev. J.W. Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will be in Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
