(The following is from a conversation between daughter Georgia (Teen) Welch and her nephew Donald A. West in 2000)
" Andrew, whose mother was Cherokee Indian, trapped and sold furs from coons and possums. Artimissa, who was part Irish and part German, canned food from her garden to keep the family fed. Andrew, as described by Tina, wasn't too friendly. As he appears in the photographs, he must have been a pretty serious guy. He and Artimissa married when she was 13 or 14 and Andrew 17 or 18. Andrew and Artimissa had 10 children, Ernest Jefferson, Adolph Lafeyette, Richard (AKA Birdine, died at 32 years old of pneumonia), Charlotte Anne (Lottie), Edwin Ulysses, Ova Ednona, Georgia Irene (Tina or Teen), Birtie Mae (died of spinal meningitis at 12), Hattie Belle (died at 3 weeks from Bull's Hives(?) and John, who died at 17 years old of pleurisy.
Ernie and Adolph were "run off" from the family at an early age by Andrew. Teen said Andrew forced Ernie and Adolph to do all the work of supporting the family, so they left to tend to their own lives away from Saco, Missouri. Evidently Andrew didn't even want to put the effort out to ferry the kids across the river to attend school. I believe only Adolph finished school out of all the children."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Andrew by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Andrew:
