Biography

John was born about 1641. Son of Richard Westcott and Joanna Unknown.[1]

John removed with his brother, Daniel, to Stamford where he married to Ruth Hyatt.[1] On 9 Feb 1667[/8?], John Wescott, on "behalfe of my now wife formerly called Ruth Hiat," acknowledged receipt of the just "portion Left her from her deceased father Thom: Hiat."[2] Ruth was born about 1650 (age 60 in Bedford census of 1710).[1]

John purchased land at Mamaroneck from John and Mary (Richbell) Mott on 26 June 1675, and John and Ruth were living at Mamaroneck, Westchester County in 1676 and in 1698.[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

The profile follows Jacobus and others in stating "John removed with his brother, Daniel, to Stamford." No evidence is cited, and I don't see how it's possible. John Westcott never appeared in the Stamford town records and never recorded a sale or purchase of land there. Instead, from adulthood forward, John was identified as landowner or inhabitant in towns of western Long Island (Huntington, Hempstead, Flushing, Jamaica) or, later, Westchester (Westchester, Mile Square, Mamaroneck, Rye, Bedford).

In the first deed, of 8 Dec 1663, entered in the Huntington town records, "John Westcott lat of fairfield" sold to Tho. Powell "all my accomedations which Moses Hayte and my selfe bought of Richard ogden in Huntington." Witnesses were Thomas Skidmore (stepfather) and Caleb Wood. The earlier deed from Richard Ogden was not recorded. Richard had been recruited to mill in Fairfield beginning 1662, so John, having just come of age, probably made the purchase at that time.

Meanwhile, John's brother Daniel Westcott was still "of Fairfield" on 14 Feb 1664[/5] when he acknowledged receipt of his portion from his father's estate. Daniel owned land in Stamford by 8 Apr 1668 and was propounded for freeman there on 12 May 1670.

Can anyone make the case that John removed to Stamford and did so with brother Daniel?

Hi, That text references Jacobus' Families of Old Fairfield. You probably saw in the Changes that this paragraph has added back in 2016. Have you checked with Cynthia (Billups) B ? I see she is still active in Wikitree.
