Benjamin, of Samuel, was born at his father's farm on the west bank of the Pocasset River, near what is now the "Cranston Print Works " village then in the town of Providence. He married 1733, April 29, Mary Carpenter. She was born 1714, February 14. She was the daughter of Silas, who died 1751, June 13, who bequeathed to her by his will 100.
Silas, was of Silas, of William, born 1603, at Amesbury, Wiltshire County, England. William was one of Roger Williams twelve associates in the settlement of Providence. William Carpenter married Elizabeth Arnold, sister of Governor Benedict. [1]
Children: Jacob, born in Providence, and died there just prior to 1808, April 4, when his will was probated. His first wife was probably a Miss Manchester of the Manchester family of Cranston. He married second, 1795, August 23, Elizabeth Dowler of Providence. From 1795, February 19, to his death he was a deacon in the First Baptist Church at Providence. Jacob had by his first marriage: sons Pardon b 1777 and Joseph b abt 1780. [2]
