Biography

Daniel Wetherell was born November 29, 1630, at Free Schoolhouse, in Maidstone, Kent, England. He is the son of William Wetherell and Mary Fisher.[1]

Daniel and his two siblings emigrated to America in 1634 with their parents aboard the ship Hercules. [2] [1]

In 1638, the family moved to Duxbury in Plymouth Colony.[1]

In 1644, they moved on to Scituate in Plymouth Colony. On September 2, 1645, his father was ordained as the first minister of the church organized there.[1]

Daniel took up residence in New London, in the Colony of Connecticut, where he showed himself to be possessed of superior executive abilities, combined with a trustworthy character, and that community proceeded to make use of him accordingly. He served in one office after another, often in more than one at a time. We as Town Clerk, Moderator, Justice, Assistant Judge of Probate, and Judge at the County Courts.[1]

Daniel married Grace Brewster on August 4, 1659.[1]

Daniel Wetherell died April 14, 1719, in New London.[1]

Daniel Wetherell of New London in the Collony of Connecticut. Names grandson John Pickett, grandsons Daniel Denison and Wetherell Denison, granddaughter Mary Buttler, granddaughter Grace Hallem, granddaughter Phebe Denison, granddaughter Hannah Hough, granddaughter Boradell Denison, youngest granddaughters Anne Denison and Sarah Denison, son in law George Denison executor. Dated 11 April 1719. Proved 4 May 1719.[3]
