Biography

Isabella was born in 1778, based on her age in 1841 and her age on death, and was baptised on 10 Mar 1782 at Millbrook, Bedfordshire, the daughter of Samuel Wheeler and Susannah.[1]

Isabella had an illegitimate child Seth Wheeler (born Millbrook on 09 Sep 1809, christened 15 Oct 1809) fathered by Mark Ashby BUNKER . Bunker was jailed for 3 months in 1815 for disobeying a Filiation order to support Seth. [2]. Mark Bunker was transported to Tasmania for stealing a sheep on Apr 24 1817. At the time he had outstanding filiation orders for at least two other illigitimate children. On on 21 October 1816 at Cranfield, Bunker married Elizabeth Burgess, whom he had a child and outstanding recognizance. Perhaps marriage was cheaper than a filiation order! One can speculate on the motives of the magistrate, Rev. Dr. Philip Hunt when he sentenced Bunker to death and commuted to transportation for life to Australia.

Isabella married Samuel LAYTON, son of John LEIGHTON and Elizabeth NOTTINGHAM, on 21 Oct 1811 in Millbrook, Bedfordshire, England. [3][4]

(Samuel LAYTON was born on 4 Oct 1789 in Northill, Bedfordshire, England, christened on 14 Oct 1789 in Northill, Bedfordshire, England, died on 21 Mar 1859 in Kaysville, Davis, UT and was buried on 22 Mar 1859 in Kaysville, Davis, Utah.)

Samuel and Isabella were living in Thorncote, a hamlet in the parish of Northill, Bedfordshire, in 1841 - Sam Layton 55; Isabella Layton 60; Christopher Layton 20. All born in Bedfordshire.[5] Her rounded down age of 60, actual age 60-64, implies a birth 1776 - 1781.

She died in the Dec quarter 1849 in Biggleswade registration district, which includes Thorncote, age 71.[6]
