Biography

This profile is part of the Wheeler Name Study.

Lieut. Joseph Wheeler was baptized February 18, 160910, in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England[1][2] the child of Thomas Wheeler and Rebecca Unknown. He married Elizabeth about 1634, in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. They had two children who died young. In 1642 he married Sara Goldstone, widow of Joseph Merriam. and they had two children together. After 1669 he married Francis Greene, widow of Isaac Wheeler, Richard Cook and Thomas Greene. He died after 1681.[3][4]

Joseph emigrated from England to Massachusetts by May 13, 1639/1640., when he was name "freeman".[5][6]

"JOSEPH, bapt. 18 Feb 1609/10; m. 1, Elizabeth --- who was buried 19 July 1642 at Concord; ch.: Ephraim b 14 April 1640 buried 19 July 1652, Joseph b 1 Dec. 1641 buried 18 July 1651. He m 2, Sarah Goldstone; ch.: Mary b 20 Sept. 1643, Rebecca b 6 Sept. 1645. He m 3, Frances (Watson)(Wheeler)(Cook) Greene, widow of Isaac Wheeler of Charleston, Richard Cook, then of Thomas Greene of Malden. He was called Lieutenant. He was alive in 1681, aged 71."[7]

On 12 Mar 1671 Joseph's then-wife Sarah Goldstone died (Sarah, wife of Lieutenant Joseph Wheeler died 12 Mar 1670/71 in Littleton Vital Records).[8]
