Biography

Horation P. Wheeler was born at Gardner, Massachusetts on October 16, 1825, son of Joel Wheeler and his first wife Patty Kelton . ^[1]

His father Joel died intestate on March 30, 1851, as attested to his widow Lydia, and on October 23, 1851, a petition was submitted to the court for a license to sell his real estate to settle debts. His widow Lydia was granted the license on February 20, 1852 and the following surviving heirs consented to her being granted the license:

• Edwin J. Wheeler
• Francis L. Wheeler
• Benjamin Rugg, guardian to Betsey E. Wheeler. ^[2]

When his grandfather Lemuel Kelton died in October, 1663, Horatio and his 2 brothers Francis and Edwin Wheeler, were noted as the only surviving heirs to their grandfather's estate. ^[3]

Horation married first, Permelia Frost Ashburnham on November 23, 1852. ^[4] Permelia was born at Hubbardton, Massachusetts on January 2, 1817, daughter of Stephen Jr. and Parmelia Frost. ^[5]

On May 31, 1869, Horatio Wheeler of Ashby and wife Parmelia, were summoned to appear in court, on a complaint of Augusta H. Frost, widow of J. Milton Frost, Parmelia's brother, charged with fraudulently receiving, concealing embezzling and carrying away items from her husband's estate. ^[6]

His wife Parmelia died on June 11, 1888 at Ashby, Massachusetts. ^[7] She is likely the Permelia Frost who is buried in the Parish Cemetery at Hubbardston. ^[8]

He married second, Georgiana M. (Drake) Bassett, as her third husband on April 19, 1894 North Grafton, Massachusetts. ^[9]

Georgianna Maria Drake was born on August 1, 1828, daughter of Cyrus and Hannah (Alexander) Drake. ^[10]

Horatio died on February 19, 1912 at St. Francis Home, Worcester, Massachusetts and was buried in Hubbardston, Massachusetts. ^[11]

Georgianna died at Worcester on February 18, 1914. ^[12]
