Biography

Chauncey Wheeler was born on December 17, 1751 in Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut. His parents were David Wheeler and Lois Chauncey.

He enlisted in the militia in 1778 during the American Revolution.

He married Caroline Beers on October 12, 1781

Together they had the following children:

  1. Simeon Wheeler
  2. David Wheeler
  3. Phebe Wheeler
  4. Patience Wheeler
  5. Huldah Wheeler
  6. Lois Wheeler
  7. Caroline Wheeler
  8. Nathaniel Wheeler
  9. Nicholas Wheeler

He died on April 22, 1803, in Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA.[1]

In 1848, the Fairfield probate court discovered an estate for him that had not been known at the time of his deceased.[2] This estate was prize money that was due to him from the United State Treasurer for "prizes" taken by the squadron of John Paul Jones in 1779. In 1850, it was to be distributed to the widow, Caroline Matilda Wheeler, Huldah Gregory, Patience Egerton, David Wheeler, Phebe Devine, Nichols C. Wheeler, Lois Reno, Caroline Fancher, Simeon Wheeler, and Nathaniel Wheeler.[3][4]
