Rose WHEELER. [1]
It is not certain that this Rose WHEELER is the first wife of the Thomas CASSIDY who was transported to Australia in 1830. It may well be a completely different Thomas CASSIDY. Convict indents suggest Thomas was married before being transported and had two female daughters.[2] The Dublin marriage date of 1827 fits with this timeframe.[3]
There is a Rose CASSIDY listed as a Tenant of the Earl of Enniskillen in 1862 at Corracoash, Clanawley, Kinawley, Enniskillen, Fermanagh.[4] It is possible that Rose remained living near other CASSIDY family members after Thomas was transported.
Until we can identify the names of the two daughters, much of this remains subjective.
The death of Rose CASSIDY in 1885, aged 78, is unlikely to be the same person. [5] On 15 February 1885 at Barcaw, County Cavan, married farmer's wife, aged 78, son James Cassidy present at her death. [6]
