Jonas Wheeler, son of Jonas and Persis (Brooks) Wheeler, was born at Concord Massachusetts on January 25, 1745/6. [1][2]
He married first, Rebecca Maynard at Concord on March 28, 1765. [1] Rebecca was born at Sudbury, Massachusetts on September 25, 1748, daughter of David Jr. and Elizabeth (Maynard) Maynard. [3]
After their marriage he removed to Rindge, New Hamphsire, then to Wilmington, Vermont where he resided nine years, removing from there to Galway, Saratoga Co., New York, remaining there until his old age, when he removed to Wheeler, Steuben Co., New York. [2]
Rebecca's father David Maynard wrote his will on January 21, 1790, and in it he left his daughter Rebecca Wheeler, wife of Jonas Wheeler, and her heirs, 2/3 of all my household goods, wearing apparel and moveable estate, within one year after my decease, and my debts and funeral expenses are paid. [4]
The estate administrator, Isaac Maynard submitted an accounting to the court on March 13, 1794 and noted the following payments:
June 30, 1791 : to Jonas Wheeler - L18: 4: 8
February 14, 1791: to Jonas Wheeler L36: 9: 8
February 21, 1792: to Jonas Wheeler L:33: 9: 6 [4]
On February 21, 1792, Jonas Wheeler submitted an acknowledgement to the court as to having received L33:9: 6, in full from the estate of David Maynard, deceased, of the legacy coming to me. [4]
He died at Wheeler, Steuben Co., New York, before September 23, 1825. [2]
On September 23, 1825, administration of the estate of Jonas Wheeler who died intestate was granted to Jane and Gratton H. Wheeler of Wheeler, Steuben, New York. [5]
David Wheeler, born at Rindge, New Hampshire on March 16, 1771; died at Auburn, Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin on April 26, 1854; married first at Galway, New York in November 1795 Mary/ Polly Chase who was born at Stonington, Connecticut and died at Richfield New York on December 6 1803; married second Nabbie Converse Taylor at Brookfield, Madison Co., New York on July 30, 1805. Office of the State of Vermont says : I hereby certify that the following is a correct transcript from the records on file in this office regarding soldiers who served in the Revolutionary War: Extract: Signed by TS Peck From New Hampshire Records now in this office it appears that:
Jonas Wheeler served as a Private: seven days from New Ipswich, after the Concord alarm April 20, 1775. [15][16]
Also served as a Private: 2 months 21 days, under Captain Samuel Atkinson, Stationed at Coss in Haverhill from December 1, 1776. [17]
Served as a Private: 3 days, from July 10, 1777, in Captain Silas Wright's Company, Colonel Enoch Hale's Regiment, which marched to reinforce the Garrison at Ticonderoga. [18]
Served as Private: 28 days, from September 28 to October 25, 1777, in Captain Edmund Briant's Company in Colonel Daniel Moor's Regiment. of New Hampshire Volunteers. [18]
Marched from New Ipswich and joined the Continental Army at Saratoga. [2]
Was, without doubt, at the Surrender of Burgoyne. [2]
Served as a Private: 21 days from August 10, 1778 in Captain Robert Fletcher's Company, Colonel Enoch Hale's Regiment., and joined the Continental Army on Rhode Island. [18][2]
