Fred was born about 1930. Fred Wheeler ... He passed away in 1992. [1]
"He was the youngest of 8 children born to Byrd and Mary Jane. He had an additional 5 older half-siblings, the offspring of his father's first 2 marriages; these marriages sadly ended with the early deaths of Byrd's wives due to childbirth complications. He was born and raised on the family homestead in Murchison, Pensacola Township, Yancey Co. NC, in the Carolina mountains. He married Virginia Mae Matthey on September 12, 1954, in Kentucky." [2]
