Biography

Birth

Sarah was born in 1650. She is the daughter of Thomas Wheeler and Mary (Unknown) Wheeler.[1][2]

Marriage

According to one source Sarah married Daniel Stanton on 01 June 1671, either in Stonington, New London Connecticut Colony or Barbados, West Indies.[2][3]

Other sources say "It is rumored that she was married to Daniel Stanton.[1][2]

Some records claim that Sarah and Daniel had a son named Richard who was Christened/Baptized 24 Sep 1741, in St. Thomas, Barbados, however there is no image to examine for oneself. Additionally, this is NOT likely, though not impossible to be the son of this Sarah, as she would have been ninety-one (91) years of age at the time his birth (what makes it a remote possibility is that he could have been Christened/Baptized later in his life).[4].

Note: Regarding the above speculation, it may be relevant that Wheeler's (1900) History of Stonington contains the following passage pertaining to the protracted legal dispute over ancestral land title near Stonington following the death of Daniel Stanton (q.v.):

After an extended and exhaustive correspondence between Richard Stanton and his son, Richard Stanton, Jr., of Barbadoes, party of the first part, and... [[1]]

Thus the subject of the baptism in 1741 may not have been Daniel's son, rather his grandson, about whom very little has yet been evident.[JRF]

According to A Record Genealogical Biographical Statistical, of Thomas Stanton, of His Descendants" it is stated that Daniel "m. and d. in Barbadoes; he died before 1688 and left one son, Richard".[5]

Death

Records are not as yet available. It is guessed that she and her husband both died in 1687, though by whom has not been determined.

Note: If Sarah and her husband Daniel Stanton did die synchronously then it is most likely that she died in Barbados where Daniel died in 1687.
