Captain John Wheeler served with 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

John Wheeler was born on February 5, 1731 in Southborough, Worcester, Massachusetts Bay. His parents were Jacob Wheeler and Amity Amsden. [1] [2]

He married Deborah Gleason, who was bom June 22, 1731, died Nov. 22, 1823, on August 29, 1751 in Framingham, Massachusetts. [3] [2]

Captain John Wheeler of Petersham was commander of a Company in Colonel Ephraim Doolittle's Regiment of Minute Men April 19, 1775. On the 27th of that month he was engaged as a Lieutenant in Captain Joel Fletcher's Company in Colonel Doolittle's Regiment and served through the year. He was commissioned an Ensign in Captain Ezekiel Knowlton's Company in Colonel Nicholas Dike's Regiment in October 1776 and engaged as First Lieutenant on the 1st of December in the same year. He with other officers agreed to tarry until March 1, 1777. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]

Also served at Dorchester Heights, and at Ticonderoga and Crown Point under Ethan Allen. [10]

He died on June 12, 1815 in Westmoreland, Cheshire, New Hampshire.
