Walter was born on 11 February 1828 in Jefferson, Schoharie, New York, USA. He was the son of Edmund Wheeler and Mary (Mead) Wheeler.[1]

In 1860 Walter (age about 31) was living in Jefferson, Schoharie, New York, USA.[3]

Military Discharge: 31 December 1863 in Brashear City, St. Mary, Louisiana, USA.[4]

Military Service: 1 January 1864 in Brashear City, St. Mary, Louisiana, USA.[5]

In 1865 Walter (age about 36) was living in Jefferson, Schoharie, New York, USA.[1]

Injury: 2 April 1865 in Farmville, Prince Edward, Virginia, USA.[5]

Military Discharge: 29 June 1865 in Washington, District of Columbia, USA.[6]

When Walter was 40 he married Harriet Helene Smith on 21 May 1868 in Middleburgh, Schoharie, New York, USA. The couple had 6 children: Anna Alida Wheeler, Adelbert Smith Wheeler, Hattie Wheeler, Fred Wheeler, Nellie Estella Wheeler and Minnie E Wheeler.[5]
