Biography

Samuel Whidden was born 08 Jun 1752 in Nottingham, New Hampshire, the son of James Whidden, and Abigail Sanborn[1].

Samuel came to Nova Scotia with his father and siblings in 1761, and they settled in Truro. On 15 Jul 1774 when Samuel was 22, he married Abigail Newcomb, daughter of Capt. Eddy Newcomb and Abigail English.

It is unclear just how or where Samuel and Abigail met. Abigail's family was from Cornwallis, Kings Co. Her sister Elizabeth had relocated with her husband Eliakim Tupper from Kings County to Truro in 1773. Also, Samuel's brother, John, had settled in Cornwallis, either as a relocation from Truro or at the same time as his parents and siblings emigrated from New Hampshire to Truro. So Abigail may have been in Truro with her sister, or Samuel may have been in Cornwallis with his brother.

Abigail and Samuel settled in Colchester County. They had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth (29 Mar 1775-1864)
  2. Abigail (17 Dec 1776-16 Feb 1858)
  3. Eddy (16 Feb 1778-1858)
  4. Sarah. Born on 29 Dec 1779 in Truro. Sarah died in 1797; she was 17.
  5. Eleanor (5 Apr 1783-2 Jun 1836)
  6. Mary (29 Jun 1785-12 Feb 1839)
  7. Nancy (24 Dec 1787-24 Apr 1858)
  8. Samuel (13 Aug 1790-16 Feb 1862)
  9. James (1796-5 Sep 1870)
  10. Phoebe (18 Feb 1799-28 Jul 1842)

Samuel died in Salmon River, Nova Scotia, on 10 Jul 1821; he was 69. He was buried in Robie St. Cemetery, Truro.

Whidden-11 and Whidden-2 appear to represent the same person because: According to the book Historical and Genealogical Record of Colchester County (1972), James Whidden only had 1 son named Samuel Whidden. He was born in 1752 and married to Abigail Newcomb.
Whidden-59 and Whidden-11 appear to represent the same person because: Same dates, locations, parents, siblings. Multiple profiles need to be merged in Whidden family line.

The birth year was 1852 but I assumed that was a typo and changed it to 1752.
