Mary Whipple was born at Hassanamisco, Massachusetts (now Grafton) on September 21, 1730, daughter of James and Sarah (Adams) Whipple. [1][2][3][4][5]
She married first, Joshua Winchester on November 17, 1750. [1][2] Joshua was baptized on May 12, 1727, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Chamberlain) WInchester. [3][5]
Joshua died on August 30, 1757 [5]and his estate was administered at the Worcester County Probate in 1757. [3][6]
James Whipple Sr. was initially administrator of Joshua's estate and on October 15, 1757 submitted an accounting to the court. He was ordered to sell the real estate to provide for widow Mary in the bringing up of the children. After his father's decease in 1759, James Whipple Jr. was then administrator. [6]
In the division of the estate of her father, James Whipple who died intestate in 1759 , the court ordered that the real estate in Grafton be divided among four children being James Jr., John, and Lydia Whipple and Mary Winchester. Further orders indicated that James Jr. and John pay sisters Sarah Willard, Eunice, and brother Daniel the sum ofL64 each. [7]
The following persons, signed final settlement on May 20, 1760, as satisfied with the above divisions:
James Whipple Jr.
Jacob Whipple as guardian for John and Eunice
Mary Sherman and Ephraim Sherman Jr.
Ephraim Sherman Jr. as guardian for Daniel and Lydia
She married second, Ephraim Sherman Jr. at Grafton on May 12, 1760. [1][5][2][3] Ephraim was born there on March 19, 1733/4, son of Ephraim Sr. and Thankful Sherman. [1][4]
Ephraim is said to have died at Vermilion, Ohio in 1818. [4]
Winchester Children
Mary born on June 6, 1751; married Phineas Newton on September 2, 1771. [1][5][3]
Sarah born on August 17, 1753 [8]; married Phineas Leland on July 6, 1774. [1][5][3]
Prudence born March 29, 1755; married Samuel Waters on September 23, 1775. [1][5][3]

Elizabeth born on December 27, 1760 [1]; likely died in infancy.
