Transcript of Will of Mark Whitaker, Sr., from book Izard's of Arkansas by Mrs.Julia St. Francis m.Izard Hemenway: State of Tennessee, Lincoln Co., Oct.30,1841. I Mark Whitaker, Senior, calling to mind that all men have once to die and feeling the infirmity of old age, but feel thankful to God for that strength of mind, which enables me to make this my last will and testament as follows: 1st: I will my soul to God who gave it and that my body be decently buried.

2nd: I will that all my estate both real and personal be equally divided among all my children as the law directs, namely:, Rebecca Izard, Nancy Hammond, John Whitaker, Mary Lucas, Sarah Bazinger, Martha Pegram, Benjamin I. Whitaker, Judah Prewit, Mark Whitaker, Jr. and Perlina Purtem and their heirs-except the following special provisions which circumstances seem to require to be made, as my beloved wife, Catherine, is far advanced in years and feeble-I will that she have the use of one negro woman of her own choosing and as much household furniture as she may need, also the use of five hundred dollars, all to be managed for her comfort by the assistance of my executers.

3rd: I will and appoint and do ordain Benjamin I. Whitaker special agent and attorney in fact for Martha Pegram and her heirs to receive and hold for their special benefit all of my estate ageeeable to this will, to which she may be entitled to deal out as in his judgment her necessities mary require.

4th: I furthermore will, ordain and appoint Mark Whitaker the special agent and attorney in facto for Judah Preuitt (as above) to receive, hold and deal out that part of my estate which may fall to Judah Pruitt and her heirs.

My son, Mark will also account for two hundred dollars which is due for my land. In order to carry the above into effect, I hereby ordain and appoint my two sons, Benjamin I. Whitaker and Mark Whitaker my executors.

Research Notes

I have been able to identify a number of descendants of John J Whitaker (1760-1837) and Mark Whitaker (1750-1842) who have taken a Y-DNA test and who also placed themselves on the FTDNA "Whittaker Project". These men all tested as I-M253, but with a STR pattern that make is unlikely to impossible to have a common male ancestor to me in the recent past. Within the FTDNA Whitaker Project , all of these men where put into Group 4, while men who are known or suspected to be descendants of William Whitaker (abt.1701-abt.1789) are being sorted into Group 5, where I am. Additional, one of these men took the Big Y-700, and confirmed his terminal haplogroup as I-FT260635, which is a much different branch then I-FGC21748, the the common parent to all of the confirmed terminal haplogroups in group 5 of that report. (See I-FT260635 and I-FGC21748 and the table below. This has all added evidence to the belief that John J Whitaker (1760-1837) and Mark Whitaker (1750-1842), who married Catherine Boone (1760-1845), are not the grandchildren of William Whitaker (abt.1701-abt.1789).

Whitaker-1560 and Whitaker-244 appear to represent the same person because: same wife; same day of marriage (decade off?), estimated dates on 244 closely match dates on 1560
