Funeral services were held this morning (Thursday) for Dempse Comer Whitaker, 71, who died Tuesday night at his home on Oak Street. Services were in the chapel of the Carver Funeral Home with Burch Wilcox officiating. Interment was in City Cemetery. Son of Liege Jefferson and Fannie Burns Whitaker. He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was engaged in the Mercantile business and farming throughout the active period of his life he served for several years as a Justice of the Peace of the First District. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Juda Frances Huddleston Whitaker; two sons, D. C. Whitaker, Jr., Hawthorn, CA and Rupert Whitaker, Berea, KY, one daughter, Fannie Ruth, one brother, James Whitaker, Baxter, five sisters, Mrs. Sue Elrod of FL, Mrs. C. K. McBroom, Jamestown, Mrs. Ocia Watts, Mrs. Cleo Watts and Miss Senora Whitaker all of Baxter.
