Elisha White was born in Windsor, Connecticut, on November 11, 1706, the son of Captain Daniel White and his second wife Ann Bissell. He originally lived in Bolton, Connecticut, but moved to East Guilford (now Madison), Connecticut, in about 1744.

On August 31, 1732, he married Ann Field, of Bolton, daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (Dudley) Field of East Guilford, Connecticut. They had five children, probably all born in Bolton:

Elisha, born May 15, 1733; died August 3, 1742.[3][4]
Ann, born Sept.19,1735; died August 20,1742.[3][5]
Chloe, baptized February 19, 1738; married: 1st, Capt. Walter Price Griswold, 2nd, Jonathan Boardman, 3rd, Capt. Daniel Hand; died November 28, 1821.[3][6]
Dudley, born January 8, 1741; married Thankful Murray.[3]
By about 1749, the family had settled in a part of Killingworth, Connecticut, which in 1838 became Clinton, where Elisha ran a mercantile business.

Captain Elisha White died in Killingworth, Connecticut, in about 1778, at the age of about 72. His wife had predeceased him some years earlier.

Research Notes
Although sources refer to Elisha using the prefix "Captain," no evidence has yet been found to explain why.
