The oldest son of John Henry White and Mildred Terrell Satterwhite, Thomas J. White moved from Panola County, Mississippi to the Belmont area of Gonzales County, Texas in 1851 with his mother and step father, Fleming Littlefield. He married Martha E. Phelps in DeSoto County, Mississippi in January, 1851. When the Civil War broke out, he served a private in Mauls Legion, C.S.A. He and his wife were the parents of nine children who lived to adulthood, several of whom worked for George W. Littlefield, Thomas' half-brother.
According to "Key and Allied Families" by Mrs. Julian C. Lane, p. 351, "Thomas J. White (1828-1914) served in the Confederate Army as a private in Mauls Legion."
Thomas is next door to his mother and her 2nd husband, Fleming Littlefield, in 1850 Panola Co, MS. He is living with James M. Bailey, 22 yrs.
J. Phelps White III relates that T.J. White was disconsolate over the death of his son, Thomas David White in October of 1914 and basically cried himself to death over it. He lived for three weeks longer than his son and was buried at Gonzales, TX just has his son had been.
