Biography

Moses was born about 1685. He was the son of Hugh White and Isabella White. Moses passed away about 1757 and was buried in the Donegal Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.[1] There is some question over Moses's place of birth. He arrived from Ireland, but was most certainly of Scottish descent.

Moses married Mary "Polly" Campbell, the daughter of James Campbell and Mary McCoy. Mary died in about 1728 and Moses reportedly remarried to Elizabeth Cochran. His will names an Easbel, possibly one and the same, or yet another marriage.

In 1741, Moses had a patent on 168 acres of land in Mt. Joy Township, Pennsylvania.[2] He lived in "Chickies" [3] and had the following children:[4]

  1. John
  2. Elizabeth
  3. Jane
  4. Robert
  5. Moses
  6. Sarah
  7. Hugh
  8. William
  9. Isabella
  10. Agnes
  11. James

Some years later, Moses moved further North to Rapho Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he died in 1757 (or later). In his will, Moses White Sr. lists his children, noting those by his second wife Easbel (Isabel) who were underage or under 21. The Will is dated 5 October 1757 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Research Notes

Where sources say that Moses went to Delaware, that was a different Moses White (abt.1665-1735), the uncle of this one.

A little confused here. I have been reading that Moses brother of Hugh, is also Moses husband of Isabella Cochrane. This would mean White-12906 (this profile) and White-12910 (this profile's father) should be the same person? Might be worth some more investigation to clarify these profiles, and check the correct children. - https://www.tnyesterday.com/families/white/awhite.html

White-30305 and White-2565 appear to represent the same person because: Except for the death date these are the same person. Information about his Will is attached so the death date can be resolved easy enough.
White-30305 and White-2565 are not ready to be merged because: Different death dates.
White-12910 and White-12906 appear to represent the same person because: The family seems correct, but I don't believe there was a Moses Jr. (White-12906) in this branch of the family, also the original import clearly reflects the life of Old Moses (White-12910).
