Thomas was born in February of 1771 to Sophia and William White of Jeffrey's Creek, Craven County, SC. He was his parents' ninth child. The first record of him is in the 1773 DEED of GIFT from his uncle Reuben White to Sophia and her children. ( Please read Davenport-1022 profile and White-9314 profile.) When Thomas was a small boy his extended family moved from SC to Burke County, NC. There his father acquired a large tract of land at the forks of John's River and Mulberry Creek. ( Now in Caldwell County) The courthouse in Burke County burned in 1864, and records are hard to find, but some court minutes survived. We have a fuzzy picture of his early life. Sometime between 1790 and 1792, Thomas married his neighbor , Letta Estes, the daughter of Reuben and Delphia Estes. They had at least 5 children while living in Burke County. Thomas appeared on the census of 1800 and 1810 in the same neighborhood as his father William and brother Reuben. Thomas and Reuben served on two road juries together, to help with building a road around Reed Hight's plantation on Mulberry Creek. Over the course of several years, Thomas' father made several deeds of land to him, which Thomas later sold to Charles Collett. ( This land is now the town of Collettsville) As happened all across North Carolina with many families, after the War of 1812 was over, young families moved into Indian lands in Tennessee. Thomas joined his cousin John Wiseman, his nephew and niece, Joshua Hickman and Keziah Henson and other friends and neighbors moving west.. A deed from John McGimsey of Burke County, NC was recorded in Franklin County , TN Deed Book C. "To Thomas White, a tract of land on Robertson's Creek". The White family was enumerated in the 1820 Census of Franklin County. THOMAS WHITE 001101-12201-12 SL some neighbors include: REUBEN HENSON, MARY HICKMAN, HADEN TRIGG ,WAKEFIELDS and WISEMANS In 1826 Thomas died suddenly. He did not leave a will, but a deed was recorded in 1827 in which his heirs divided his estate. All of his daughters sold their shares to their brother. "John Wiseman and wife Betsy, James Philips and wife Sally, Robert Campbell and wife Nancy, and Zachariah Murrell and wife Phoebe sell to Thomas D. White, a tract..." All heirs of Thomas White who died intestate" Thomas and Letta are buried , along with other family members, in OLd Bean's Creek Cemetery near Winchester, Tennessee.[1]
