Obituary

George William White was born March 26, 1911 in Washtucna, Washington. He was the eldest of 7 children born to Curtis F. (Frank) and Nellie (Myott) White. After graduating from Ewan High School, he moved to Potlatch, Idaho and worked for the CCC doing blister rust control in the Idaho forests. He moved to Kellogg, Idaho and worked for the Bunker Hill Company until his retirement in 1974. He married Betty Olsen in Kellogg, Idaho on October 2, 1938.

They raised three children in Kellogg, and he was an active participant in the Odd Fellows Lodge. He loved to hunt, fish, play baseball, bowl, and relished time spent with his family. After his retirement, they moved to Coeur d’Alene, and he enjoyed tending his big garden and camping with the local Good Sam group. He spent many hours taking the grandkids fishing in Fernan Lake.

In 1989, he and Betty moved to St. John to be nearer family. He enjoyed his garden there, as well as reading and playing cards. He also took up the game of golf – at 80 years old, and loved times on the golf course with his youngest brother, Curt. He was a member of the St. John Methodist church. Due to failing health on both of their parts, he and Betty moved to Spokane Valley in 2007, and have been lovingly cared for by the caregivers at the At Home Again adult family home.

He passed away at home on December 5, 2010 in Spokane Valley, WA. He is survived by his three children, Marlene (Dick) Landers in St. John; Bob (Anne) White of Ft. Thomas, KY; and Judy (Dave) Roller in Spokane Valley; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Also surviving are three brothers, Ed of Silverdale, WA; Don of Pomeroy WA; Curt (Lorraine) of St. John, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Betty, in 2009, his parents, his sister Sarah Nordby and brothers Cecil and Morse Berry.

Visitation at the St. John Methodist church will be Thursday, Dec. 9th at 11:00 am followed by a graveside service at the St. John Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
