New Zealand Herald 18.4.1898 p: 6
On Thursday last, one of the prettiest weddings seen in Onehunga for some time took place when Mr. Wilton James White, eldest son of Mr. F. A. White of Carlton Gore Road, Auckland, was married to Miss Mary Ethel Browne, the eldest daughter of the chief postmaster at Onehunga. The ceremony was performed by the Rev, Canon Haselden, at St. Peter's Church. The bride was dressed in white-figured lustre, trimmed with white chiffon and orange blossoms, and wore a beautiful embroidered veil. The bridesmaids, Miss Mabel Browne and Miss Edith White sister's of the bride and bridegroom, wore'becoming dresses of cream crepon and chiffon, with bronze trimmings to the hats and carried bouquets. The other bridesmaids, little Miss Mary Heather and Miss Minnie White were dressed in pale sea green silk, with pretty white hats and bouquets The bridegroom was attended by his brother Mr. Oswald White and Mr. Ernest Browne. The Easter decorations were left in the church for the occasion, and were supplemented by a very pretty wedding bell suspended over the chancel rails. The church was crowded with guest and others, who sang most Heartily the two hymns “The Voices that Breathed oer Eden” and “How Welcome was the Call" together with the usual Psalms. Mr. P. E. Rice, uncle of the bride, presided at the organ. After the ceremony the numerous guests were entertained by the parents of the bride, The presents were many and valuable.
