With six sons and Angeline, one can easily imagine the busy life in the family. Mary Ann always had a snack for her grandchildren of thick slices of freshly baked and buttered bread, topped with brown sugar.
Perhaps one of Mary Ann’s favourite grandchildren was Eva. Proctor would hitch up “Old Fred” to the top buggy for their five mile trip to North Augusta, which always resulted in a gift for Eva.
Mary Ann was tenderhearted and as a younger woman, very helpful to neighbours near and far. She was ever concerned about the protection of wild life.
During their later years, Angeline cared for her parents. Mary Ann predeceased John by ten years. They are buried at the Weir and Giffin Cemetery near his birth place.[2]
