Biography

Matthew White was born Jan. 17, 1763 to Alexander and Jean Sims White in Franklin County, PA. Matthew was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. [1] He married Frances (Fanny) Spear in 1782. They were the parents of eight children: John (died in infancy), Alexander, Andrew, Edward, Elizabeth, Anna, Jemima, and Martha. [2] He and his family moved to Connoquenessing township in Butler County, PA in 1799. The village of Whitestown is named after him. [3] He died at home on April 12, 1812 and is buried at Mt. Nebo Church Cemetery, Butler County, PA. [4]
