Biography
1850 Census Matilda (born 1842) is listed in the home of Mary S White[1]
Disputed information on parents
The Edmund West Collection (Ancestry.com subscription needed) shows Martin V White and Anna Burden as her parents. There is also a M White (born 1845) in the household of M White (born 1803) and A White (born 1814), ten years after Anna Burden[2] There may be confusion with Matilda White (born 1845), who married Barrett Smith[3]
1860 Census has William and Matilda living with his mother his brother, Franklin and younger sister, Sarah[4]
1870 Census lists William's mother, Susan (b. 1804) in the household and the following children[5]
The following children are also on the census record when you look at the image, but were not translated onto the digital record
Thomas E 1869
Sarah LL 1872
Emma 1874
Susan M 1876
And a Susan Smith born 1804 which must have been William's mother.
