OBITUARY
DEATH OF J. F. WHITE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). GREYMOUTM, Oct. 4. The death of Mr John Francis White took place suddenly last evening at the age. of 72 years. He was an insurance agent, and formerly manager of branches at Hokitika, Hamilton and Amberley, of the Bank of New Zealand. He was born at Auckland and became a prominent footballer, and captain of Winton Rifle Club, a founder and first W.M. of Winton Masonic Lodge. He is survived by a widow, one son and two- daughters, Mrs Baird (Wyndham) and Mrs Howard Phillips (Palmerston North).
John Francis White was also the BNZ bank manager at Winton arriving from Amberley from 1896 till 1907 when he transferred to Hokitika. He was instrumental in establishing the Winton rifle range and camp ground at The Bend, Winton, now the AB Limeworks and dump. If anyone has a photo of this man, would love to hear from you...
