Biography

Jeannette (Janet, Jennet) White (daughter of Thomas White and Jane Kirkwood) was born 1829 at Nettlehurst Farm, Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland. She married John Neilson on April 26, 1850 and their first four children (Matthew, Janette, Mary, and Thomas) were born in Scotland. They came to America in 1866 and settled near Solon, Ohio on a dairy farm where their last 3 children were born. Janet died on August 24, 1874 after a long illness (the death record states consumption/TB) and John was killed about three weeks later (September 12, 1874) by a runaway horse. Their youngest children (Margaret, Jennie, and Agnes) were taken in by the Cochrans- Janet's Aunt Agnes.
